iPhone or iPod touch?
iPhone
The iPhone seems like a great all-in-one device. It would be convenient not having to carry both a phone and an iPod around, and while many of the main iPod models offer more space than the iPhone, I don't use a lot of space for music so I think I'd manage.
Having a real Web browser (and Google Maps app) that you can use from anywhere is also a huge selling point, and it helps that AT&T provides an unlimited data plan. If I want to look at sites on my current phone, I have to use a clunky browser and pay a lot for data.
Get an iphone. Its the same thing as the itouch but with a phone. I know its a lot of money but think of it like this, youre paying for a phone and an ipod at the same time.

iPod touch
For $100 less than the iPhone (much, much less if you factor in the service plan), you get an iPod with the same amount of storage and much of the same media functionality, including the flashy multitouch screen.
The iPhone won't be worth buying until Apple has released several, more refined models, just like they've developed the iPod. I'd wait for them to come out with a 3G model with a cheaper plan that doesn't cost thousands of dollars.
i agree with DJR, why buy an iphone when clearly you are going a step backwards in the telecommunications side of functionality with a 2G device
i currently have a 3.5G HSDPA UMTS phone, ie: Dopod/HTC 838 Pro, or the imate JasJam and other various names, but it all comes from HCT at the end of the day
now they have released the Tytn II which is much the same, with more memory, better camera, integrated gps antenna...
iphone, your what i like to refer to as, the prada of the sunglasses world, fancy...but nothing more
as for the sunglasses, my maui jims happily spit on all that come before them
ipod for my itunes library thanks & Windows Mobile 6.0 for my REAL Phone/PDA
