Which would you like to see be the Republican nominee?
Category: Real World > US Politics
John McCain
In a field of Republican candidates who try to out-dick each other ("I'm a xenophobe!" "But I'm a bigger xenophobe!"), John McCain stays above that and stays true to his principles instead of turning populist. He is right on immigration. He is being proven right on Iraq. Sure, he panders somewhat to the christian taliban, but it's nothing compared to the "no freedom without religion" Romney, who made even the dead white protestant males (the ones who wrote the Constitution) turn in their graves.
The only problem with McCain is that he may, due to old age among other things, become less of a maverick and more of a nutcase. In which case he may start World War III. But since a Republican has no chance to actually get elected to the White House, McCain is better in theory than Romney is in theory.
John McCain when he wasn't a playing the Bush understudy. McCain could have been an amazing President but he gave in his principles to the fringe right. He would be a one term president at best. I think that if he was elected he would revert back to the maverick of his previous days.
