Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe since it gained majority rule twenty-seven years ago. Zimbabwe currently has the highest rate of inflation in the world (at over 1,700% and climbing) and the lowest life expectancy in the world (at 34 years for women and sinking). It also has an 80% unemployment rate. Mugabeâ??s poorly conceived land reform activities have directly led to massive food shortages that could result in the deaths of thousands of innocent people and his â??Operation Drive Out Trashâ?? in 2005 affected, according to the United Nations, at least 2.4 million people in Zimbabwe (most of whom were politically opposed to Mugabe) by destroying their homes and places of employment.

While the country struggles to find foreign currency to buy food and fuel, Mugabe is spending $400,000 on the Robert Mugabe Memorial.

I don't think you'll find anyone who'd disagree with you on this one. Land ownership was a problem in Zimbabwe, but Mugabe went about doing it in a way that crippled his country, empoverished its people, and tarnished his own legacy as an independence hero. However, to drive him out of power, South Africa and other neighbors need to apply pressure, and it's shameful that they aren't doing that.

Zimbabwe used to export food to other countries. Now its people are in danger of starvation:

Nope, who's gonna do it? America? The population is too emo for that....they see a country suffering from a dictatorship and demand that our government do something about it. However, two years and a few thousand lives later they'll get furious with our president for "policing the world" and pushing our ideals on another country. Do I think we should do something about the rulers in the third world that exploit the population? Definately! Do I think that the American public possesses the resolved needed to accomplish such a task over the long run? Nope! The only people willing to do that are in our military (and I am very proud of them) but they rarely get the support they deserve due to liberal wacks who have no concept on the greater goal of spreading democracy. The end =P

Robert Mugabe is demonized by the Western media for the simple fact that he will not allow European imperial powers to control his nation. Zimbabwe is no longer a puppet, and now the Brits can't tolerate a free Zimbabwe. Much of Zimbabwe's inflation is due to economic sanctions. It is not a poor country, but economic attacks from the developed world have crippled Zimbabwe's ability to prosper. Could Zimbabwe have a better leader than Mugabe? Definitely, but Zimbabwe will have a hard time prospering until they get a government that the Brits and Americans approve of. This is just modern colonialism.
