Buying movies is for suckers

Yeah! Netflix all the way
What's the point in spending $9-20 on a movie to own it when you can pay $1-4 when you want to actually watch it.
On demand?
redbox?
blockbuster?
netflix?
online?
Plus, in a few years, you won't even have to wait for the DVD to get to you in the mail--you'll be able to download any movie at any time. I guess that's possible even now, but it's cumbersome due to legal issues, unavailability of titles, bandwidth limitations, and the fact that you want to watch movies on a TV, not a computer, but the TV/computer interface is not yet fully consumerized, if that makes sense.
I don't consider myself a heavy movie watcher to begin with so maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't see the point in buying movies. If I want to watch something, I'll move it to the top of my Netflix queue and it'll be ready in a few days. I don't think there have been any cases where I've needed to have a movie on hand within two business days, and in the unlikely event that would happen, I can go rent it at the store using my ancient Blockbuster account.

No! I like having a collection
buying movies would be ok if they werent so darned expensive
theres no justification for the high prices when the cost of manufacturing them is so low & all the money made from the movies at the box office far outweighs any loss
the MPAA really needs to get a life
we could quite happily survive without movies, as each of our lives is one big movie in itself
sure they are entertaining, but not for $30 each...
and then they wonder why people download movies & copy them, get some common sense geez
The upside to buying DVD's is simply that by owning the movie, one can view it whenever they choose. No waiting on a waiting list for it to come in, then having to worry whether or not the DVD is in. Or for those who borrow from a video store or library collection, do worries that the DVD will damage your dvd player
